"START - scholarships for gifted immigrants"

In order to give particularly gifted and committed migrant children better chances of a higher education, the Hertie Foundation (Gemeinnützige Hertie-Stiftung) brought into being the START scholarship scheme for gifted and committed migrant children and young people. The aim is to support selected competent pupils with a migration background who are attending school in years 8 to 13 in order to facilitate their transfer to the upper secondary level and thus also to help them to gain the upper secondary leaving certificate.

The evaluation conducted by the efms first and foremost had the aim of examining whether the desired effects of the scheme have been achieved as regards the scholarship holders' success at school, their career prospects, social integration and personal development. Since 2008, the evaluation on behalf of the START foundation (Hertie foundation affiliate) focuses on the scholarship selection procedure.

Commissioned by: START Stiftung gGmbH / Gemeinnützige Hertie-Stiftung
Completion: December 2008
